About the Pectus Clinic.
The Pectus Clinic is dedicated exclusively to the assessment and treatment of chest wall deformities — including pectus excavatum, pectus carinatum, rib flare and complex chest wall conditions. Alongside its sister clinic the Rib Injury Clinic, it offers a comprehensive specialist chest wall service in London.
Established in 2012, it was among the earlier consultant-led UK services focused on the specialist management of these disorders. Every consultation is led personally by Mr Ian Hunt, Consultant Thoracic & Chest Wall Surgeon. Private appointments are available. NHS assessment is via appropriate referral pathways where eligibility criteria are met.

What to expect — from first contact to treatment.
The pathway is structured but flexible. Each patient is assessed on their own terms, with investigation and treatment tailored to individual findings, symptoms and goals.
Self-referral, GP letter or consultant referral are all accepted. No formal GP referral is required for a private consultation, though some health insurers do require a referral. International enquiries are welcomed.
A one-to-one consultation with Mr Hunt, by video or in person. He will review your images and history, examine where appropriate, and discuss your condition, options and likely pathway clearly.
Where indicated, further investigation is arranged — chest CT with Haller index, Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET), cardiac or respiratory input, or specialist review from the wider network.
A personalised plan is agreed covering all surgical and non-surgical options, timing, staging and expected outcomes. There is no single pathway — it is tailored to the individual.
Treatment is delivered with structured follow-up at each stage. For surgical patients this includes post-operative review, bar removal planning where applicable, and long-term monitoring.

Consultant Thoracic & Chest Wall Surgeon
Mr Ian Hunt leads the Pectus Clinic and Rib Injury Clinic in London, with a substantive NHS Consultant post at St George's Hospital. His practice covers the full range of chest wall pathology — from first assessment through to revision and complex reconstructive surgery.
He qualified in Medicine with Distinction from University College London and completed Higher Specialist Training in Cardiothoracic Surgery at St Thomas', Guy's, St George's, the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals, followed by fellowship training in minimally invasive thoracic surgery at the University of Alberta, Canada. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS C-Th), an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of London, and has contributed to over 200 scientific communications — including indexed publications, five books and more than twenty book chapters.
