Chest wall conditions can have implications across multiple specialties. Where clinically indicated, Mr Hunt may coordinate care with trusted specialist colleagues — ensuring that assessment reflects the full clinical picture and that treatment is well-matched to the individual.
The specialists listed are independent clinicians or services with whom Mr Hunt may work, refer to, or coordinate care where clinically appropriate. Not every patient requires input from the wider network, and referral depends on symptoms, diagnosis, imaging findings, age, pathway and funding route.
Cardiology
Cardiac input is arranged selectively, ranging from paediatric assessment and advanced cardiac imaging to specialist evaluation of inherited aortopathy and connective tissue disorders where relevant.
An experienced Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist with expertise in congenital and structural heart assessment in children and adolescents. Her input is helpful in selected younger patients where assessment of cardiac position and function is required in the context of chest wall deformity.
A Consultant Cardiologist with specialist expertise in inherited cardiovascular disease and aortopathy. Her input is particularly helpful in selected patients with connective tissue features, including suspected Marfan syndrome, where more detailed cardiac assessment may influence overall management.
Respiratory Medicine
Specialist respiratory input is helpful where symptoms appear disproportionate to the chest wall deformity, or where functional breathing disorders, exercise limitation, or unexplained breathlessness require more detailed investigation.
A leading specialist in respiratory and exercise physiology, with expertise in unexplained breathlessness, performance limitation, and functional breathing disorders. His input is valuable in selected patients where symptoms appear disproportionate to the chest wall deformity, or where specialised physiological assessment is needed to better understand functional limitation and guide treatment.
Imaging
Advanced imaging input — both cardiac and chest wall — is arranged where anatomy, rib pathology, or functional findings require more detailed assessment beyond standard CT or MRI.
A highly experienced Consultant Cardiac Radiologist with expertise in cardiac MRI and advanced cardiac imaging. He previously led the Cardiac Imaging Service at Imperial College London and has over twenty years' experience in the field. His expertise is helpful in selected patients where more detailed assessment of cardiac position, compression, or anatomy is needed in relation to chest wall deformity.
An experienced Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist with expertise in chest wall imaging, including rib pathology and dynamic assessment. His input is particularly useful where more detailed imaging is needed to define chest wall anatomy, investigate atypical symptoms, or evaluate associated conditions such as rib instability — especially in more complex or non-standard presentations.
Thoracic Surgery
Where complex or revision cases warrant a second perspective or additional surgical input, Mr Hunt may liaise with other experienced thoracic surgeons — ensuring access to a broader range of expertise where this adds genuine clinical value.
A Consultant Thoracic Surgeon with a specialist interest in chest wall deformity and minimally invasive thoracic surgery. Collaboration is most relevant in selected complex, atypical, or revision cases, where an additional surgical perspective may help support overall decision-making and management.
Orthopaedic & Spinal Surgery
Orthopaedic and spinal input is arranged in selected patients where scoliosis, shoulder girdle problems, or upper limb musculoskeletal factors contribute to the overall picture.
A Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon with expertise in the assessment and management of spinal conditions, particularly where scoliosis or related spinal features form part of the overall picture. His involvement is most helpful in selected patients where spinal alignment, back symptoms, or associated deformity may contribute to presentation and influence assessment or broader management planning.
An experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in shoulder and elbow surgery, including complex reconstruction. His input is helpful in selected patients where shoulder girdle, scapular, or upper limb musculoskeletal problems may be contributing to posture, pain, or functional limitation alongside chest wall deformity.
Plastic Surgery
Plastic surgical input is available in selected patients where soft tissue correction, reconstruction, or management of asymmetry forms part of the overall chest wall treatment plan.
A Consultant Plastic Surgeon with specialist expertise in chest wall reconstruction and soft tissue correction. His input is helpful in selected patients where plastic surgical techniques may complement the overall chest wall management strategy, including cases involving Poland syndrome, soft tissue asymmetry, or complex chest wall reconstruction.
Emeritus Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Toulouse University Hospital, where he led the Burns and Plastic Surgery Department for 14 years. A past President of the French Plastic Surgery Society (SOFCPRE), he has published over 200 articles and is the author of the Springer reference work Pectus Excavatum and Poland Syndrome Surgery (2019). Now retired from operating, he serves as President and medical expert at Anatomik Modeling — specialists in custom-made chest wall implants — and provides expert advisory input to the Pectus Clinic on complex implant cases.
Anaesthetics
Specialist anaesthetic support is available for selected complex or revision chest wall procedures. Mr Hunt works with consultant anaesthetists who have specific experience in thoracic and chest wall surgery, including technically demanding pectus and reconstruction cases.
A Consultant Anaesthetist at the Royal Brompton Hospital with specialist expertise in thoracic and chest wall anaesthesia. Professor Edsell provides anaesthetic cover for complex pectus and chest wall surgery, including revision and multi-level procedures where the perioperative challenges are greatest. His experience in this area supports safe perioperative planning and recovery for technically demanding cases.
A Consultant Anaesthetist at St George's Hospital with experience in thoracic and chest wall surgery anaesthesia. Dr Ragavan provides anaesthetic support for pectus and chest wall procedures at St George's, working closely with the surgical team to optimise perioperative care. His involvement is particularly relevant in procedures requiring one-lung ventilation, thoracic epidural analgesia, and careful haemodynamic management in the context of complex chest wall anatomy.
Physiotherapy & Psychological Support
Specialist physiotherapy and psychological support are available for selected patients, addressing both the physical and emotional aspects of chest wall conditions — whether as primary treatment, in preparation for surgery, or as part of longer-term recovery.
Specialist physiotherapy input is available for selected patients where posture, breathing mechanics, chest wall movement, or musculoskeletal factors contribute to symptoms or functional limitation. The network includes therapists with expertise in functional breathing disorders, thoracic and rib mechanics, hypermobility, postural rehabilitation, and return to activity following treatment.

Psychological support is available for selected patients where the emotional impact of chest wall deformity, chronic pain, or the surgical experience is significant. Input may be helpful at any stage — during assessment, in preparation for surgery, or as part of longer-term recovery. Approaches include cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance-based work, and support around body image and self-confidence.
